Item 1 of 1 Assessing Housing Interior Sustainability in a New Egyptian City(ELSEVIER, 2012) Abdel-Hadi, Aleya; Aboulgheit, ImanThis paper focuses on the level of sustainability reached in the interiors of houses provided in one of the gated communities east of Greater Cairo. The research aim is to assess following some of the Green Buildings Rating System (GBRS) requirements two main components (light and interior finishes) that are found in the detached villas. The purpose is to find out the importance and presence of sustainability measures in the designer's thinking and process, in design implementation, in the market supply and the residents' awareness. Results show that house interiors and their occupants' awareness could be considered below the required sustainability average. (C) 2012 The Authors. F; Ibrahim, G EOccupational exposure of the skin to toxic chemicals is a recognized health problem so chemical protective clothing is considered the most important line of defense to the worker who is exposed to the hazardous chemicals. This research aims to produce fabrics suitable for protecting against hazardous liquids (accidental splashes of chemicals). All samples under study were produced cotton and cotton /polyester 50/50. Three weft sets were used 24, 27 and 30 picks /cm and three fabric structure (plain weave 1/1, twill 2/2 and satin 4). Samples were coated, on one face, with transol F L 20 to make the fabric repellent and a barrier to Protect against hazardous chemical liquids. Their influence on the performance of the end-use fabric and the achieved properties were studied. On the other hand physic-chemical properties including, studying the effect of some hazardous liquids chemicals using Gutter method, tensile strength and elongation, water absorption, roughness, thickness and weight were evaluated according to the final product needs. Some more results were reached concerning structures and materials. The desert has its unique features that forced mankind to create architectural and urban patterns to adapt to the surrounding environment by building cities and developing indoor spaces, in order to protect themselves from extreme climatic conditions. Advanced technology in construction aided with many difficulties that face designers connecting internal spaces with the external environment, through providing a harmonious system that achieves thermal comfort and prevents the consumption of energy resulting from the use of conventional methods of cooling and heating, achieving permanent control over the amount of energy flowing under climate change throughout the year. The impact of our current lifestyles in the desert environment leads us to a tragic state of depletion of energy, and desert environment has become more vulnerable to pollution and damage, where the need to seek solutions should be inspired by nature itself. “Ecological simulation” is the major key to find solutions for design problems through the observation of nature, using biological research and information available on the ecosystems and organisms in the desert environment. Nature simulation is a process that begins with a design problem and ends with solutions for that problem through the designer.Item Antibacterial functionalization of reactive-cellulosic prints via inclusion of bioactive Neem oil/beta CD complex(ELSEVIER SCI LTD, 2011) Ibrahim, N. R.In the present research enhancing the antibacterial activity of cellulosic fabrics printed with reactive dyes was achieved through combined reactive printing and beta CD loading in one step followed by subsequent treatment with Neem oil, as an eco-friendly antimicrobial agent. Retention of Neem oil with its main compound azadirachtin within the hydrophobic cavities of beta CD moieties-attached the reactive cellulosic prints, via formation of host-guest inclusion complexes, to impart antibacterial functionality against G+ve (Staphylococcus aureus) and G-ve (Escherichia coli) bacteria was carried out. The experimental results reveal that post-treatment with Neem oil results in a remarkable improvement in the antibacterial activity of the treated reactive prints along with darker depth of shade and without adversely affecting the UV-blocking properties of the final products. Mode of interactions, surface morphology as well as washing durability of antibacterial and anti-UV functions were also investigated. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.Item Application of MCT-beta CD to Modify Cellulose/Wool Blended Fabrics for Upgrading Their Reactive Printability and Antibacterial Functionality(KOREAN FIBER SOC, 2018-08) Ibrahim, Nabil A.; Khalil, Heba M; Eid, Basma M; Tawfik, Tawfik M.Pre-loading of monochlorotriazinyl beta-Cyclodextrin (MCT-beta CD) onto/within viscose/wool (V/W) and cotton/wool (C/W) blended fabrics provide hosting cavities that can form host-guest inclusion complexes with reactive dyes in postprinting as well as with triclosan derivative or silver nanoparticles/hyperbranched polyamide-amine (AgNPs/HBPAA) composite in subsequent final antibacterial finishing step. Coloration properties, antibacterial activity against (S. aureus) and (E. coli) pathogenic bacteria, durability of the obtained products, according to the above mentioned route, to wash, surface morphology and composition of selected samples were investigated. Results obtained signify that premodification of the nominated substrates with MCT-beta CD (10 g/l), followed by reactive printing with mono-or bifunctional reactive dye (20 g/l), and subsequent post-finishing with triclosan derivative or AgNPs/HBPAA composite (15 g/l each) is an efficient treatments sequence for attaining reactive prints with significant antibacterial efficacy and noticeable durability to wash. Surface depositions of selected active ingredients were also confirmed using SEM and EDX analysis.Item Basic garment pattern design and the development for the standard figure(EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD, 2014) Tahan, Ahmad; Fayoomy, AmalIt is common that the measurements of any human Figure are differing from the others with same size. Based on the parameters of flat curves and measurements of the flat pattern, using the parabola curves as stating points between the armhole and the armscy geometrical approximation of the garment is achieved by reshaping the surfaces of the flat pattern. Bearing in mind that, in reality there is no such thing as standard or perfect figure, the formulas for constructing basic flat pattern has designed and developed for the standard figure. The research is trying mathematically to solve and overcome the problem of fitness and might put a step to solve this deficiency.Item The best printing methods to print satellite images(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2011-12) Mohamed, R. Sh; Yousif, G. AIn this paper different printing systems were used to print an image of SPOT-4 satellite, caver part of Sharm Elshekh area, Sinai, Egypt, on the same type of paper as much as possible, especially in the photography. This step is followed by measuring the experimental data, and analyzed colors to determine the best printing systems for satellite image printing data. The laser system is the more printing system where produce a wider range of color and highest densities of ink and access much color detail. Followed by the offset system which it recorded the best dot gain. Moreover, the study shows that it can use the advantages of each method according to the satellite image color and quantity to be produced. All rights reserved.Item Biomimicry as a problem solving methodology in interior architecture(Elsevier, 2012) Mahmoud Ali El-Zeiny, RashaBiomimicry is an applied science that derives inspiration for solutions to human problems through the study of natural designs, processes and systems. The widespread and practical application of biomimicry as a design method remains unrealized; interior architecture commonly use biology as a library of shapes, but this alone is not biomimetics; it has to have some biology in it. This paper reviews key points and case studies of applications of biomimicry in interior architecture. A critique of the applications shows that biomimetics is the way to innovation and sustainability and interior architecture must move beyond the formalistic characteristics of nature.Item Cellulosic/wool pigment prints with remarkable antibacterial functionalities(ELSEVIER, 2015) Ibrahim, N. A.; Eid, B. M.; Khalil, H. M.Several bio-active agents namely choline chloride, triclosan derivative, PEG-600 and 4-hydroxybenzophenone were successfully included into solvent-free pigment formulations, in a single-stage process, followed by screen printing and microwave-fixation to obtain antibacterial functionalized cellulosic/wool pigment prints. Results obtained signify that both the improvement in functionalization and coloration properties are governed by type of antibacterial agent, kind of substrate as well as pigment colorant. The imparted antibacterial activity of the loaded bio-active agents follows the decreasing order: G+ve (Staphylococcus aureus) > G ve (Escherichia coli), keeping other parameters constant. The imparted functional and coloration properties showed no significant decrease even after 15 washings. Mode of interactions among the nominated substrates, the pigment paste constituents and the bioactive agents were also proposed. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. M.There is an urgent need to reduce the environmental impacts of textile wet processes taking in consideration product and environmental quality as well as economic concerns. Substitution of hazardous chemicals at the source and/or shortening the production steps are potential options which could be used to move towards cleaner production process and to cope with ever-increasing demands for eco-friendly textile products. In this research the possibility of enhancing both the ultra-violet shielding and coloration properties of wool fabric in a single-stage using beta-cyclodextrin or monochlorotriazinyl beta-cyclodextrin as well as certain ultra violet absorbers or blockers as additives to other environmentally benign printing paste components was investigated. The modified one-step coloration and functionalization method, using safer textile auxiliaries, less energy, and water consumption, proved to have positive impacts on the depth of the obtained prints and their fastness properties as well as on their ability to shield the harmful ultra-violet B-radiation without seriously affecting the environment. The enhancement in the imparted properties is governed by type of cydodextrin, degree of fixation onto/ within the wool structure, type and extent of immobilization of the used ultra violet protector, type of dye and its mode of interaction, as well as degree of interactions among the nominated printing paste components and the wool active sites during the steam fixation step. The imparted ultra-violet protection properties to the modified wool prints show obviously improved durability to wash compared to the unmodified ones. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Color can be used in healing to bring balance and harmony within the psyche and the body. Depending what color we choose for healing, the invisible vibration of color can relax or stimulate us. In this study we are going to focuses on the relation between colors from the psychological point of view and dressing for health.Item Colour preferences according to educational background(ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV, 2015) Hanafy, Ihab Mahmoud; Sanad, RehamThis study investigated differences in colour preferences associated with academic field of study. This is because it is believed that educational background has an impact on personality traits affecting individual choices including colour preferences. A questionnaire was collected from 80 participants including students at graphic design and information technology departments at first and final years of study. Subjects were asked to choose the most preferred colour for clothing and living room. "Blue" was the most preferred colour for clothing by 15% of the total subjects. Colour preferences were not related to education concerning the clothing in all cases including students from first and final levels in graphic design and information technology departments. However, "White" was found the most preferred colour by 35% of total subjects. There were found significant relationships between educational background and colour preferences for living room. This relationship was investigated for final year students of graphic design and information technology chi(2) = 21.7; p=0.003; alpha=0.05, and for graphic design students from first and final years, the value of chi-square equals 14.5 which was significant at the 5% level p=0.02. M.; Eid, B. M.; Abd El-Aziz, E.his study demonstrates the possibility of enhancing the antibacterial functionality and pigment printing properties of cotton/polyester blends (50/50 and 35/65) in one step. Inclusion of chitosan (10 g/kg), choline chloride (15 g/kg), triclosan derivative (20 g/kg), hyperbranched poly amide-amine/silver or zinc oxide nanoparticles (HBPAA/Ag-NP's hybrid or HBPAA/ZnO-NP's hybrid - 20 g/kg) into a pigment print formulation followed by printing and microwave curing at 386W for 5 min results in an improvement in antibacterial activity and pigment printability. It was further noted that, in all cases, the G+ve (S. aureus) bacteria is more susceptible to the action of the immobilized antibacterial agents than the G-ve bacteria (E. coli). The functionalized pigment prints exhibited very sufficient antibacterial activity even after 20 washing cycles. All rights reserved.Item Combined dyeing and resin finishing of wool/viscose and cotton/wool blends(TAYLOR & FRANCIS INC., 2006) Ibrahim, NA; Allam, E.; El-Hosamy, MB; El-Zairy, MR; El-Zairy, W.The objective of this study is to establish a single-stage process for anionic dyeing and easy-care finishing of wool/viscose (60/40) and cotton/wool (70/30) blended fabrics. Optimum conditions for maximizing dyeability and achieving high resiliency are: Fixapret (R) ECO (50 g/L), triethanolamine hydrochloride (20 g/L), ammonium persulfate (7.5 g/L) at 160 degrees C for 3 min. The extent of improvement in both the depth of shade and easy-care properties is determined by the nature of substrate and follows the descending order wool/viscose > cotton/wool. On the other hand, the extent of dye fixation and the change in fastness properties of the obtained dyeings are determined by the class of dyestuff.Item Combined Printing and Creation of A "Host Guest" Functional Textile for Depositing Fragrance(NAT INFORM & DOCUMENT CENTRE, 2016-02) Gaber, N. G; Naser, A. H; Abd-El Thalouth, J. ITHE EFFECT of chemical modification of cotton and cellulosic portion of its blend with polyester with reactive cyclodextrin R-CD on its printability with reactive dye as well as its ability to keep fragrance was thoroughly investigated. The results obtained indicate that, the extent of reaction expressed as %N increases by increasing R-CD concentration. The K/S of R-CD modified samples is relatively higher than the untreated samples for both cotton and its blend with polyester, while the overall colour fastness properties are nearly the same. In case of incorporation of R-CD to the printing paste, the K/S increases as the amount of R-CD increases from 50 to 75 g/Kg printing paste, on increasing the amount of R-CD to 100g the opposite holds true. The effect of treatment with different perfume oils viz. vanelline, rose, jasmine and sandal on ability of the treated fabrics to keep fragrance upon storing for 2, 20, 30, 37 and 90 days was also investigated. It was found that the ability to keep fragrance increases by increasing the extent of reaction expressed as % N and decreases by increasing storing time (up to 3 months) and it depends on the kind of the perfume oil, where it can be arranged according to the order: sandal. jasmine. rose. vanelline oil. Application of the obtained results was also done for scented ladies wear in innovation designs coloured with bifunctional reactive dye.Item Combined UV-protecting and reactive printing of Cellulosic/wool blends(ELSEVIER SCI LTD, 2013) Ibrahim, N. A.; El-Zairy, E. M. R.; Abdalla, W. A.; Khalil, H. M.A novel approach for attaining reactive Cotton/wool and Viscose/wool prints with outstanding UV-protection functions was achieved via inclusion of certain UV-absorbers namely 4-hydroxybenzophenone and UV-SUN (R) or UV-blockers like ZnO-NPs and TiO2-NPs along with MCT-beta CD, as a reactive additive, in the printing paste formulation using Na-alginate as a thickening agent. Experimental results reveal that the inorganic UV-blockers exhibit better UV-protection functions compared with the used UV-absorbers, and the improvement in the imparted UV-protection capacity follows the decreasing order: ZnO-NPs >TiO2-NPs > 4-hyroxybenzopherone >= UV-SUN (R) >> none > untreated. The enhancement in UV-protection functionality is governed by the type of substrate, cotton/wool > viscose/wool, extent of modification and loading of the used nano-metal oxides or organic absorbers onto the fabric surface as well functionality and ability of the used reactive dyes to absorb the hazardous UV-B radiation. The obtained functional prints exhibited outstanding UV-protection efficiency even after 15 washing cycles. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Research into the application of such materials has been extensive due to the ability of color change to effectively convey important information and therefore have been used in the industry to fulfill certain applications. Since they have the capability to change their colour, they have been used in some hazardous applications, medical applications and some may serve pure artistic statement. Each of these chromic materials react to external stimuli in a very different way. Materials that display chromic properties are classified by the type of stimuli that induces their color change. The colors in the homes and surroundings affect our physical, emotional, and mental health. By carefully choosing the colors that surround us we are indirectly caring for ourselves. If we look at the colors we choose, we can understand many clues to our personalities and inner feelings. The colors we are attracted to over long periods of time are linked to our personality type, our strengths and weaknesses, as well as indicating our potential in life. These colors preferences, which often remain unchanged for our whole live, are known as "soul color”. In this research we are going to focuses on the relation between choosing colors from the psychological point of view and their uses in the living rooms.Item De-carbonized energy initiative with bio-cell-distributed stations using GIS geodesic tools towards circular economy(Sage, 6/24/2021) Allam, Sammar ZDe-carbonized energy implementation involves experts to integrate inter-connected strategic objectives. Pragmatic sustainable development requires substitution of fossil-fuel energy with cleaner energy. Simultaneously, demonstrating circular economy through waste-to-energy concept is another perspective to foster renewable energy resources. Biomass energy has the highest share in the renewable energy plan of most countries. UNDP (United Nation Development Program) has established a project to provide rural areas with bio cells that intake only animal waste. In the light of rural sustainable development, as part of this research proposal, bio cells can be upgraded by local manufacturers to be fuelled with crop residue, which will reduce crop residue burn. Instead of crop residue burn in open areas, polluting the Cairo skies with a black cloud or smog and endangering urban environmental health through escalating urban heat island phenomenon, agriculture waste can be utilized as an energy source of biofuels, bio-power or even bio-by-products to substitute liquefied petroleum gas or integrated within UNDP project upgrade. The novelty of this research is demonstrating bio cells in distributed stations at fire-hotspot location to supply decarbonized energy resources for communities rehabilitated within the GIS geodesic buffer. These distributed stations support LEED-ND rating system criteria of on-site energy generation. Such demonstration at fire spots through developing brownfield zones is a sustainable opportunity for misused zones. Numerical calibration of Orduz energy potential equation developed in 2011 shows that the generated bioenergy is 531.59 PJ, equivalent to 1.48E + 11 kWh annually. Such feasible sustainable development strategy through energy resources convergence promotes self-sufficient clusters.Item Development of functionalized cellulose/wool blended fabrics for high performance textiles(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2017) Emam, Elamir M; El-Zairy, Mohamed Reda; Basma, M. Eid; Ibrahim, Dalia F; Ibrahim, Nabil ARecently, increasing demands for high quality, high value-added, durable, safe and eco-friendly functional cellulose/wool blended fabrics have stimulated intensive research and development efforts. Therefore, the main goal of the present work was to develop new functional finishing formulations using citric acid/sodium hypophosphite (CA/SHP) cross-linking system along with certain bio-active agents based on triclosan, choline chloride, organosilane quaternary compound or chitosan to get anticrease/antibacterial bi-functionalized blends. Also, CA/SHP and bio-active agent based on AgCl/TiO2 finishing formulation was used to impart anti-crease/anti-bacterial/anti-UV multifunctionalities to the treated fabrics. Type and extent of improvement as well as durability to wash of the imparted function were governed by chemical composition and concentration of the active-additive as well as nature and extent of modification of the treated substrates. SEM images and EDX spectra of some samples were reported. In addition, the tentative reaction mechanisms were also discussed.
