Abstract

During the past two decades, traffic authorities in many cities have started to inform and guide drivers to parking facilities with real-time variable message signs. Search time is a direct consequence of the information presented. Given that the time spent searching for a free space is generally closely related to the distance covered, which in turn, is related to the emissions produced, reducing search efforts should bring about environmental improvement. Currently used parking systems are not as efficient as they should be since the drivers are allowed to park without any restrictions and the parking facility cannot be used to its full extent. During the last four decades numerous technical development solutions have been introduced and implemented until so far. In this project, we present an IoT based cloud integrated smart parking system. The proposed Smart Parking system consists of an on-site deployment of an IoT module that is used to monitor and signalize the state of availability of each single parking space. A IoT web browser is also provided that allows an end user to check the availability of parking space and book a parking slot accordingly. The project also describes a high-level view of the system architecture. Towards the end, the project discusses the working of the system in form of a use case that proves the correctness of the proposed model.
