The struggle between power and money

Abstract

The novel takes place in Egypt, mainly in El Giza Train Station, in 2003 where daily conflicts between citizens and policemen are portrayed. Sherif and Walid are two policemen, the latter portrays a loyal officer who cherishes his homeland, while the former represents the model of a corrupt officer. The first act establishes, the life styles of our two main families, which make up our six main characters. Walid Sami, police officer, middle class citizen, lives his life guided by values and virtues. Maha, Walid’s wife, was his neighbor and is the love of his life. The story starts when Sherif – a corrupt officer- attacks Walid’s younger brother and wife, over the small matter of parking. Sherif abuses his power, and forges reports, to cover his trail after the attack. Sherif, is considerably richer than Walid, and lacks morals. Like Walid, Sherif is also married. However, his marriage is purely for an improved social status. Perry, Sherif’s wife, is the daughter of a wealthy businessman.
