A new series of copper doped phosphate glasses with a chemical formula 42P2O5-40ZnO-2CaO--(16-x)Na2O-xCu2O where x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mol %, the glass samples were prepared by using the melt-quenching technique. The samples have been identified using the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Density, molar volume, copper ion concentration and interionic distance have been carried out to explore the effect of copper ions on the structural network of the prepared glass samples. The UVVisible measurements were carried out to study the optical filtering behavior for the studied samples. Optical band gap, Urbach energy, refractive index and electronic polarizability were deduced. The analyses of results reveal that the amorphous state of the prepared samples. The density and molar volume have an opposite trend. Hence, the present work shows a new chemical composition with a new physical properties that can be used as an optical bandpass filter.en_US
