Abstract

The project is a documentary film under the name “Eyes of Nabq”. The documentary is simply showing the viewers the real lives of Bedouins in South Sini, Sharm El Sheikh in Nabq’s protected Area. The film is focusing on Bedouin girls who live in the protectorate, who are educated, work in fishing which is the same profession of Bedouin men there; and those Bedouin girls’ future plans and dreams. Why the film focused on those Bedouin girls? Well in fact the message of the documentary which is “Seeing is not believing”, is aiming to correct the stereotypes that the media has created throughout the years, about Bedouins being primitive, men are in control of women’s freedom, women not working and lack of gender equality. The documentary was filmed in January 2019 in Nabq’s protected area; where most of the film took place in the Fisher’s area or in El Gharkana, some shots were taken in Wadi khereiza which is also in Nabq and in Dahab to take the shots for the school. The project was fully filmed by one person who is me, as the project is an individual project and due also to that Bedouins in Nabq are not confident with having to many cameras and people filming them. Equipment used for the project were two cameras a full frame DSLR, a GoPro for the underwater footage, two mics which were a neck mic and another mic for recording natural sounds as well as a stabilizer for the DSLR camera. The documentary was filmed in December 2018 as well during the field research of the theoretical part of the project.
