Purpose. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role and efficiency of the locally injected vitamin C in the enhancement of the palatally impacted canine movement. Materials and methods. Twelve adult patients with unilateral palatally impacted canines were included in this study. The enrolled patients were randomly allocated into the study groups; control group; conventional orthodontic traction and the intervention group: orthodontic traction enhanced by intraepidermic vitamin C injection. The study duration was 12 months. Results. The clinical evaluation revealed higher traction rate of the vitamin C enhanced group with preserved alveolar bone level, gingival biotype and width of the keratinized gingival tissues. Conclusion. Locally injected vitamin C is one of the potent eruption accelerator that has the advantage of keeping the integrity of the surrounding periodontium. 2018 CIC Edizioni Internazionali s.r.l.
