Abstract
It is widely recognized that data security will play a central role in the design of future IT systems. Many of those IT applications will be realized as embedded systems, which rely heavily on security mechanisms. Examples include security for wireless phones, wireless computing, pay-TV, and copy protection schemes for audio/video consumer products and digital cinemas. Note that a large share of those embedded applications will be wireless, which makes the communication channel especially vulnerable. All modern security protocols use symmetric-key and public-key algorithms. This contribution surveys several important cryptographic concepts and their relevance to embedded system applications. The security requirements, such as authentication, confidentiality and integrity, always make computationally intensive processes and can easily become the bottleneck of the related applications. This paper presents an upgraded implementation of the Data Encryption Standard (DES) on the recent ATMEL, Microcontroller Corporation; ATMEGA32. We show how a modified chip structure in the hardware module results in a significant improvement of the design efficiency. Elliptic curve (EC) has proved to be a good choice for building asymmetric encryption system. So, in this paper we implement another new symmetric system: "New DES based on EC" on an embedded system. The new system will be based on EC properties so in this paper, we will accomplish four main targets. Firstly, we present an explanation for the new ciphering system using Elliptic curve. Secondly, we perform multiple modular operations with the new algorithm simulated on a PC-to-PC networking via the serial port using PROTEUS simulation electronic circuit analysis program. Thirdly, we apply the new algorithm after the performance test simulation practically on the new designed module hardware and make the performance tests practically. Finally, we present some calculations belong to the cryptanalysis of the new algorithm also the effect on the real time operations
