Item Determinants of entrepreneurs activities: New evidence from cross-country data(World Scientific Publishing Co., 2015) Salman D.M.; Faculty of Management Sciences; Modern Sciences and Arts University; EgyptThis chapter provides an empirical investigation of the main determinants of entrepreneurial activities across three groups of countries over the period 2004-2008, by specifically examining the importance of institutional setting and economic growth on entrepreneurial activities. The classification of countries is based on the Economic Freedom Index and the World Economic Forum (2011) which groups them on the basis of whether they are innovation-driven, efficiencydriven, or factor-driven countries. On the one hand, empirical results find a positive and significant role for economic freedom to accelerate entrepreneurial activities and growth in innovation and efficiency-driven countries characterized by strong institutional systems. On the other hand, the results suggest that in factor-driven countries characterized by relatively less economic freedom and weak institutions, there is a significant negative relationship between economic freedom and entrepreneurial activities. 2015 by World Scientific Publishing Co. Cement plays a crucial role in meeting societies' demand for real estate and construction materials. In many emerging countries and especially those characterised by an increasing rate of population, consumption of cement will continue. This present case study aims to estimate the pollution load for the cement industry in Egypt using an industrial pollution projection system (IPPS). This estimation will provide an assessment of the effects of industrial pollution in Egypt, and to analyse the market's driving forces and to guide the government with information to priorities its objectives with regard to the competing demands of pollution, growth and development. We use life expectancy at birth as a measure for the health and gross domestic product per capita (constant 2000US$) as a measure for the wealth. We employ the cointegration analysis and utilize the linear and nonlinear forms. This paper concluded that for the linear model, the results indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between health and wealth. For non-linear model, the results show that health and wealth have inverse U-shape relationship. This conclusion will help policy makers and researchers in developing countries with high fertility rate to consider a strategic health program to achieve impacts on nation's health and human wealth. However, further work need to be done in order to specify exactly which policies will be effective in improving economic growth and development in LDCs. EuroJournals, Inc. 2012.
