Item The architectural features of socio-spatial transformation in Hassan Al-Imam’s Cairo Trilogy(Intellect Ltd., 2023-02) El-Feki, Sameh; Abdel-Ghani, TaherThe urban scenery that dominated Cairo since the nineteenth century was a spatial superimposition of tradition and modernity, represented in the social and architectural composition of the city. The cinematic medium in Egypt attempted to visualize such overlap through a vivid depiction of spatial transformations occurring within the micro and macro urban levels revealing hidden aspects of social order and organizational behaviour. This article sheds light on Egyptian filmmaker Hassan Al-Imam’s Cairo Trilogy films, based on the critically acclaimed novels by Nobel Prize laureate Naguib Mahfouz, where the story takes place in the heart of early twentieth-century Cairo spanning from 1917 to 1944. The films’ physical features illustrate the morphology of time and urban space constituting to the socio-spatial narratives of the local setting, a theoretical framework adopted by the authors named cine-spatial representation. Through the examination of such connection within the settings across the three films, the article reveals the influence of non-physical elements on the physicality of architectural and urban space, creating a visual narrative from social collectivism to individualist fragmentationItem Middle-income residential compounds towards resilience through risk management: Experts’ point of view(Elsevier, 2022-04) Adel, Rana; Kamel, Basil; Amin, Ahmed; El-Feki, Sameh; Nasreldin, RaniaThe middle-income sector in the Global South faces challenges in finding appropriate housing due to high dwelling costs, loans, and maintenance. This research aims to present indicators that should be met when building middle-income compounds in three aspects: middle class housing, a resilient approach, and risk management. This research relied on a three-step approach. First, it started with scanning relevant liter- ature to identify the factors of satisfaction for the middle-income class. Building upon these factors, the second step launched a survey among 60 experts to verify the collected factors. In the third step, confir- matory factor analysis identified the critical indicators and eliminated the irrelevant ones. The main find- ing established a merged model consisting of urban governance, resilient cities, municipalities, and quality of life, which consisted of 12 categories and 38 indicators. The concluded remarks demonstrate that a strong relationship between the aspects improves the quality of life for middle-income compounds.
