Item Biomedical Engineering: Specialisations and future challenges(2011) Azar A.T.; Electrical Communication and Electronics Systems Engineering Department; Modern Science and Arts University (MSA); 26 July Mehwar Road intersection with Wahat Road; 6th of October City; EgyptBiomedical Engineering applies the principles of engineering, biology, and medicine to create devices and methods that solve problems in the health care industry. Due to the diversity of the field, it has become essential to identify tracks or specialisations that students can engage in during their final years of study. However, due to the limited resources, especially in the Arab world, most universities stick to limited specialisations. In this paper, we shall review the state of the art tracks in Biomedical Engineering globally with concentration on the Arab World. We shall also focus on the prospect of the field and the expected future requirements. 2011 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.Item Enhancement of a GSM based control system(Research India Publications, 2015) Hassan A.M.A.; Department of Electronics and Communications; October University for Modern Sciences and Arts; 26 July Mehwar Road intersection with Wahat Road; 6 October City; EgyptThis paper presents the development and implementation of a Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) based on control system for electrical applications that enables the complete control of the interface on which it is based. GSM module was used for receiving short message service (SMS) from users mobile phone that automatically enable the controller to take further action like switching ON and OFF electrical applications such as fan, air- conditioner, light etc. The system was integrated with microcontroller and GSM network interface using arduino.orduino software was utilized to accomplish the integration. The system is activated when user sends the SMS to the controller at home (regarded as Smart Home). Upon receiving the SMS command, the microcontroller unit then automatically controls the electrical applications by switching ON or OFF the device according to the users order. In other word, it reads message from the mobile phone and respond to control the devices according to the received message. Research India Publications.Item Enhancement of designing the smart glove(Research India Publications, 2015) Hassan A.M.A.; Department of Electronics and Communications; October University for Modern Sciences and Arts; 26 July Mehwar Road intersection with Wahat Road; 6 October City; EgyptVoice glove is a system that helps the deaf and dumb people to communicate with normal people without Interpreter. It wants to break that barrier between these people and normal people and helps them to live a normal life. A voice glove was designed to facilitate an easy communication through recorded speech for the benefit of speechless patients. This paper is aimed to improve the designing of the smart glove where the Gestures of fingers of a user for this glove will be converted into a memory address which is used to hit the memory location in which voice message is stored to convey an audible message to others. The glove is internally equipped with multiple flex sensors that are made up of "bend-sensitive resistance elements". For each specific gesture, internal flex sensors produce a proportional change in resistance of various elements. The processing of this information sends a unique set of signals to the PIC Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) microcontroller which is preprogrammed to speak desired sentences stored in Secure Digital (SD) memory card. Research India Publications.Item Gain enhancement of a compact thin flexible reflector-based asymmetric meander line antenna with low SAR(Institution of Engineering and Technology, 2019) El Atrash M.; Abdalla M.A.; Elhennawy H.M.; Department of Electrical Systems Engineering; October University for Modern Sciences and Arts; 26 July Mehwar Road intersection with Wahat Road; 6th October City; Egypt; Department of Electronic Engineering; Military Technical College; El-Qobba Bridge; Al Waili; Cairo; Egypt; Department of Electronics and Communications; Ain Shams University; Abbasseya; Cairo; EgyptA compact, flexible, coplanar waveguide-fed, U-shaped reflector surrounded asymmetric meander line antenna operating at 2.4.GHz is presented for wrist wearable applications. The antenna is printed on flexible Rogers Ultralam 3850 substrate. Size reduction of 67.7% was attained by employing the meandering methodology, in comparison with the printed straight monopole. The design displays a gain of around 3.dB by incorporating a U-shaped reflector, on the same level as the radiator, which is considered as the main contribution of the proposed design. Bending scenarios were studied proving the antenna robustness against bending. The proposed antenna was bent over a human body model with optimum separation distance, where enhancement of the specific absorption rate (SAR) level has been achieved, compared to the symmetric meander line antenna. The antenna was fabricated and measured where a high agreement was met in terms of simulated and measured return loss and radiation pattern polar plots, as well as, simulated and measured gain. The Institution of Engineering and Technology.Item A novel system for haemodialysis efficiency monitoring(2011) Azar A.T.; Electrical Communication and Electronics Systems Engineering Department; Modern Science and Arts University (MSA); 26 July Mehwar Road intersection with Wahat Road; 6th of October City; EgyptA novel system dynamics (simulation) model is developed to evaluate the effect of dialysis policies on session performance, quantify, optimise dialysis efficiency and monitor dialysis performance online. The developed system focuses on analysing and highlights factors which may alter the delivered dose and may lead to session degradation This will help increase the achievement of adequate haemodialysis to a level consistent with or higher than national adequacy statistics, in order to reduce the morbidity rate of the haemodialysis patient. The simulation results and the statistical analysis revealed that there is no statistically significant difference between the calculated results and the measured results. This system dynamics model is considered the novel system that calculates the dialysis session performance as a function of not only dialysis adequacy but also the intradialytic complications and overall equipment effectiveness.
