dc.description.abstractNowadays the concept of having a self-driving car is not that hard. Today many of the car companies start to make the self-driving cars with some features to satisfy the customer needs. In this project we will talk about the traffic jam assist (TJA) and how it will help the society. Nowadays people suffers from the traffic jam and the hours they spent every day stuck on traffic. Also those traffic jams will be increasing every year due to the increase of the population all over the world and make it much harder and suffering for the people who drives daily for their work, schools. That’s also could be dangerous because this stuck consume a huge amount of the driver’s energy and may cause accidents due to the lack of energy and the drivers can’t focus on the road anymore. Traffic jam assist (TJA) is a system just like the adaptive cruise control (ACC) that’s a feature implemented in many types of cars especially in self driving cars. The cruise control is used by the drivers when they traveling a long distance they use the cruise control to set the speed they want without any effort with only a button press, the adaptive version of the cruise control is different in some situations, it can change the speed according on some actions, if the car detects a slower car in front of it automatically decreases the speed to avoid it then return to the normal speed. The traffic jam assist (TFA) is the same idea of the adaptive cruise control but used in traffic (low speed), it works by getting the data from the LIDAR sensor on the car (LIDAR Sensor is used to detect the surrounding objects by firing rapid pulses of laser to any surface, this used to calculate the distance between the LIDAR and the other surface by the time that the laser took to return after hitting the surface divided by two). TFA is only used to adjust the speed by itself without the driver’s interaction. But these feature is only for the speed, increasing or decreasing it only without any steering and changing of the direction of the car. The current situation of the self-driving cars is there is no full self-driving vehicles because that’s not legal on the streets, however there is some self-driving cars and trucks with varying features of self-automation like lane centering feature, adaptive -cruise control, self-parking car and automatic braking system for avoiding collision.en_US
