Item Antibacterial and Anti-Fungal Biological Activities for Acrylonitrile, Acrylamide and 2-Acrylamido-2-Methylpropane Sulphonic Acid Crosslinked Terpolymers(MDPI AG, 11/01/2020) Farag, R.K; Atta, A.M; Labena, A; Alhawari, S.H; Safwat, G; Diab, AThere is a pressing demand to synthesize polymers that have antibacterial and antifungal properties. The aim of this study was to synthesize a crosslinked hydrophilic terpolymer with acrylamide, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulphonic acid and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a crosslinker. The chemical structure and thermal stability of the prepared cross-linked terpolymers were confirmed by spectroscopic and thermal analyses. Moreover, the swelling experiments were performed to investigate their swelling capacity. Furthermore, the efficiency of the synthesized cross-linked polymer gels was assessed as an antimicrobial agent against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and fungal strains. The synthesized polymers showed broad inhibition effect, with more antibacterial activity by the AM4 polymer sample containing high percentage of acrylonitrile monomer in the prepared terpolymers (4 mol ratio of acrylic acid: 1 mol ratio of acrylamide: 16 mole ratio of acrylonitrile against Gram negative bacterial strain), while sample M3 terpolymer (1 mol ratio of acrylamide: 1 mole ratio acrylonitrile: 3 mole ratio of acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulphonic acid) showed a promising anti-fungal activity. © 2020 by the authors. Protein electrophoreses showed that Beni Suif 4 was characterized by the absence of band-3 with 41.56 kDa. RAPD analysis showed that the number of polymorphic amplicons was 56 out of a total of 93 amplicons, thus revealing a level of 60.0% polymorphism. The highest genetic similarity revealed by RAPD analysis (95.0%) was between Beni Suif 5 and Beni suif 6. While, lowest similarity (65%) was found between Beni Suif 4 and Beni Suif 5. The dendrogram separated Sids 12 from all the other genotypes, thus demonstrating the distinctiveness of the genetic background of this genotype from all the other genotypes. The three genotypes constituted a subcluster divided into two groups, one group composed of Beni Suif 5 and Beni Suif 6, while the second group comprised Beni Suif 4.Item Narrow band ultraviolet B therapy deactivates Th1/Th17 pathway and activates Th2 cytokines secretion in Egyptian psoriatic arthritis patients(TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD, 2-4 PARK SQUARE, MILTON PARK, ABINGDON OR14 4RN, OXON, ENGLAND, 01/01/2020) Farid, A; Tawfik, A; Elsioufy, B; Safwat, GPsoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disorder that affects 3-4% of the world population. Keratinocytes and immune cells in patient's skin secrets excess pro-inflammatory cytokines that in turn activates the differentiation of T helper cells (Th) into Th1 and Th17 and deactivates Th2 pathway. Several phototherapies have been used in treatment of moderate and severe psoriatic patients; among them narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB, 311 nm) is the most effective. We aims to evaluate the therapeutic effect of NB-UVB exposure in 80 Egyptian plaque psoriatic patients with and without psoriasis arthritis development. This will be accomplished by measuring serum cytokines levels (IL-10, -12, -17, -23 and -34) and high sensitive C reactive protein before and after treatment. A significant elevation in Th2 pathway cytokine, IL-10, and significant decrease in Th1/Th17 pathway cytokines were observed after treatment. This indicates the success of NB-UVB therapy in down modulating IL-12 and IL-23/Th17 axis. The pathological conditions in psoriatic arthritis patients were improved by NB-UVB targeted to the skin. As serum cytokines levels in these patients indicated that the reduction in Th1/Th17 inflammatory cytokines and elevation of Th2 anti-inflammatory cytokines was not restricted to skin lesions only, but also, spread in patients' body and improve their pathologicItem Rice husk derived biochar as smart material loading nano nutrients and microorganisms(Agricultural Academy, Bulgaria, 2020-01) Hassan, A.Z.A.; Mahmoud, A.W.M; Turky, G.M; Safwat, GView references (42) Present exploration aspired to produce biochar from rice husk basic nano particles using slow pyrolysis technique. The physio-chemical characteristics, phases and surface morphology of biochar were studied by different visual techniques. The obtained result confirmed that rice husk derive biochar is considered as a novel carrier of nano nutrients and advanta-geous microorganisms. The recorded values of mean radius, nearest distance between particles, perimeter of particles, the surface area of biochar basic nano particles, cation and anion exchange capacity were examined. The image of surface topography showed that biochar enrich by nano-particles with “sponge” shaped structures and nano-particles were imbedded into macro, meso, and micro pores of biochar. The spacemen atoms of pure elements composition of biochar followed the descending order of oxygen > silicon > sodium > potassium > carbon > magnesium > calcium > alumina. The stability and fertility of biochar basic nano particles might be used as safety soil amendment, climate changes mitigation, source of fertilizer and eco-friendly. The determined conductivity of the prepared biochar is found in the range of semiconductors which make it suitable and prom-ising material to be used as filler in polymer composites and nano composites for many electric and electronic applications. © 2020, Agricultural Academy, Bulgaria.
