Item Awareness Campaign: Solar Energy as an Alternative Solution in Egypt’s Future MCOM471a حملة التوعية عن الطاقة الشمسية(October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, 2019) Emad, Karim; Hussein, Rawan; El-Sayed, Eslam; Badawy, RokayaThe concept of Solar Energy has been an existing phenomenon for centuries. It’s ability to absorb sunlight and transform it into renewable energy that constantly provides enough electricity for various purposes is perceived, by some, as beneficial when compared to other sources of energy like the nonrenewable ones which, as Chowdhurry, Uddin, and Saleh (2014) point out, is prone to endangerment due to its limited & scarce quantity, which is why the creation of an awareness campaign, stressing on Solar Energy’s importance, was of crucial necessity when it comes to conducting this research; which is as follows. For this project, the following campaign that’ll be created, in purpose of raising awareness towards the importance & advantages of Solar Energy conversion, will be titled as “Solarise” which mainly combines, creatively, “Solar” as in ‘Solar Energy; and “Rise” as in ‘Sunrise’ which basically implies that the renewable electricity discussed in the campaign is mainly generated by the power of sunlight. As for “Solarise” overall, this term was strategically manipulated as to imply the main initiative of the campaign, which is creating enough awareness & “solarizing” the entire Egyptian community whereas they all convert or switch to the usage of Solar Energy/Panels. For the campaign itself, it mainly revolves around tackling the importance regarding using Solar Energy as an attempt to convince prospect targets, being Egyptian Males & Females (aged 20+; with an income of 10k LE), towards how it could play a beneficial role in one’s life. To do this, it aims to firstly discuss several information regarding Solar Energy which’ll be tackled in points that summarizes the campaign as follows: 1. What It’s About: being a renewable source of energy that constantly provides an endless supply of electricity; in comparison to nonrenewable ones that are hazardous to the environment and at risk of running out. 2. Its Advantages: being easiness & convenience, avoiding or reducing payments for electricity bills, friendly source of energy that doesn’t harm the environment; unlike hazardous nonrenewable resources, etc. 3. Implementation: whereas Egypt possesses large and unoccupied land spaces like deserts alongside a suitable, sunny weather for maximum efficiency & operation of Solar Panels. 4. Where to Find It: since most Egyptians, as the primary research points out, are unaware of stores or locations in which they could find & purchase solar panels which is why it’s crucial that such details are provided within the campaign as to encourage those interested enough to take action. Whilst lastly; with such factors taken into consideration, it is evident that the main initiative for the campaign will mainly revolve around spreading awareness towards the existence of Solar Energy within the Egyptian society (since most of them lack awareness towards it being used in the country) via stressing the benefits like convincing them of its affordability & findability; which should hopefully encourage interest & purchase behaviors towards Solar. To do this, Egyptian audiences must be firstly convinced as to why relying on nonrenewable resources is ineffective in the long-run since, as Energypedia (2018) points out, energy sources like natural gas & oil, popularly used in Egypt, are endangered & at risk of running out; unlike renewable ones, which as mentioned before, provide an endless supply of electricity alongside saving money that could’ve been wasted on electricity bills. Therefore, by presenting Solar Energy as the solution that’ll combat and possibly eliminate various inconveniences in which Egyptians are constantly exposed to, which’ll be mentioned & elaborated on more thoroughly in this research, the likelihood of attracting attention, changing attitudes, & promoting enough awareness towards Solar as the alternative electricity option that could be relied on, permanently, is high in Egypt.
