dc.description.abstract White-ware formulations from local raw materials clay, talc and feldspar with either titanium oxide or lithium carbonate as additive were prepared by the conventional ceramic processing. Cordierite, Tialite [aluminium titanate] or Spodumen containing bodies were obtained on firing at 1280 degreesC. Fired bodies show a water absorption between 0.4 to 3%, MOR between 15 to 19 Wa and thermal expansion coefficient between 0.2 to 3.8 10(-6)/degreesC [25 to 1000 degreesC]. Crystalline phases developed were determined by XRD. Microstructure was examined under SEM provided with EDAX. Bodies withstand thermal shock test without any signs of spalling. Selected compositions were processed by the plastic method into products with various sizes and covered by the suitable glaze. en_US
