Methods: Rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups: normal control, doxorubicin inducted control, eicosapentaenoic acid treated group and a final group pretreated with vitamin E. Lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione (GSH) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) contents as well as glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activities were assessed. Moreover, hearts were used for immunohistochemical detection of the pro-apoptotic protein cytochrome c expression, while the kidneys were used for detection of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression. Results: Eicosapentaenoic acid and vitamin E produced significant protection from doxorubicin-induced cardiac and renal toxicities. The suggested mechanisms for protection included decreased cytochrome c and iNOS expression as well as markedly decreased lipid peroxides and TNF-alpha contents accompanied with increased GSH content as compared to the doxorubicin control group. Moreover, there was marked increase in GPx and SOD activities accompanied by significant suppression of MPO activity. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated the potent protective effects of eicosapentaenoic acid and vitamin E from doxorubicin induced cardiac and renal toxicities through their potent anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic properties. Hence, eicosapentaenoic acid and vitamin E could be promising protective agents against doxorubicintoxicity.Item 1 of 1 Experimental and FE simulations of ferrocement columns incorporating composite materials(TECHNO-PRESS, 2017) Shaheen, Yousry B. I.; Mahmoud, Ashraf M.; Refat, Hala M.This paper presents a proposed method for producing reinforced composite concrete columns reinforced with various types of metallic and non metallic mesh reinforcement. The experimental program includes casting and testing of twelve square columns having the dimensions of 100 mmx100 mmx1000 mm under concentric compression loadings. The test samples comprise all designation specimens to make comparative study between conventionally reinforced concrete column and concrete columns reinforced with welded steel mesh, expanded steel mesh, fiber glass mesh and tensar mesh. The main variables are the type of innovative reinforcing materials, metallic or non metallic, the number of layers and volume fraction of reinforcement. The main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of employing the new innovative materials in reinforcing the composite concrete columns. The results of an experimental investigation to examine the effectiveness of these produced columns are reported and discussed including strength, deformation, cracking, and ductility properties. Non-linear finite element analysis; (NLFEA) was carried out to simulate the behavior of the reinforced concrete composite columns. The numerical model could agree the behavior level of the test results. ANSYS-10.0 Software. Also, parametric study is presented to look at the variables that can mainly affect the mechanical behaviors of the model such as the change of column dimensions. The results proved that new reinforced concrete columns can be developed with high strength, crack resistance, and high ductility properties using the innovative composite materialItem 1 of 1 ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CAPSULAR (VI) POLYSACCHARIDE OF SALMONELLA TYPHI ANTIGEN AND TESTING ITS IMMUNOGENICITY IN LABORATORY ANIMALS(2012) Fahmy, L. This Metabolic pathway is crucial for biotechnological applications using L. reuteri in bioconversion of glycerol to industrially important plate-form chemicals. L. reuteri grown on minimal media containing 1,2 propanediol was able to utilize the compound as a sole carbon and energy source. The growth of the bacteria was linear with time; however the specific growth rate was significantly low compared to bacteria grown on the same media in the presence of glucose.Item [1,2,4] Triazolo [3,4‑a]isoquinoline chalcone derivative exhibits anticancer activity via induction of oxidative stress, DNA damage, and apoptosis in Ehrlich solid carcinoma‑bearing mice(Springer Verlag, 2022-07-26) WalyEldeen, Amr Ahmed ; El‑Shorbagy, Haidan M; Hassaneen, Hamdi M; Abdelhamid, Ismail A; Sabet, Salwa ; Ibrahim, Sherif AbdelazizDespite the advances made in cancer therapeutics, their adverse efects remain a major concern, putting safer therapeutic options in high demand. Since chalcones, a group of favonoids and isofavonoids, act as promising anticancer agents, we aimed to evaluate the in vivo anticancer activity of a synthetic isoquinoline chalcone (CHE) in a mice model with Ehrlich solid carcinoma. Our in vivo pilot experiments revealed that the maximum tolerated body weight-adjusted CHE dose was 428 mg/kg. Female BALB/c mice were inoculated with Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells and randomly assigned to three dif- ferent CHE doses administered intraperitoneally (IP; 107, 214, and 321 mg/kg) twice a week for two consecutive weeks. A group injected with doxorubicin (DOX; 4 mg/kg IP) was used as a positive control. We found that in CHE-treated groups: (1) tumor weight was signifcantly decreased; (2) the total antioxidant concentration was substantially depleted in tumor tis- sues, resulting in elevated oxidative stress and DNA damage evidenced through DNA fragmentation and comet assays; (3) pro-apoptotic genes p53 and Bax, assessed via qPCR, were signifcantly upregulated. Interestingly, CHE treatment reduced immunohistochemical staining of the proliferative marker ki67, whereas BAX was increased. Notably, histopathological examination indicated that unlike DOX, CHE treatment had minimal toxicity on the liver and kidney. In conclusion, CHE exerts antitumor activity via induction of oxidative stress and DNA damage that lead to apoptosis, making CHE a promising candidate for solid tumor therapy.Item A 10-Step Design Process for Architectural Design Studios(Springer Nature, 2020) Abdelhamid, T.G.In most architectural schools, Design Studios Architectural design is usually a process in which there is no clear methodology or scientific step-by-step process that should lead the student to a design acceptable to his instructors. This paper suggests a systematic method that reduces studio design to a clear process that should lead to what can be a better design output in a shorter time. This method is for beginner to intermediate level design studios. We will first describe and analyse the issue, then we will explain the proposed process in detail, then a brief report is given on implementation in five different case studies, ending with recommendations on how to make the best use of the process. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.Item 2-Killing vector fields on warped product manifolds(WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD, 2015) Shenawy, Sameh; Unal, BulentThis paper provides a study of 2-Killing vector fields on warped product manifolds as well as characterization of this structure on standard static and generalized Robertson-Walker space-times. The proposed antenna is designed in order to resonate at 28 GHz (Ka-band) which is suitable for fifth generation (5G) applications. CP is realized by introducing two corners truncation with V-shaped slot of the square patch. The presence of the V-slot has improved the impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna. The analysis and the optimization processes throughout this paper are carried out using Finite Element Method (FEM) and Finite Integration Technique (FIT). Single element and two elements corporate fed array are fabricated and their scattering matrices have been measured. A good agreement between simulated and measured data is obtained. An equivalent circuit model for the proposed two port MIMO array with circuit element values is introduced. The total efficiency of the proposed MIMO antenna is higher than 85% along the entire bandwidth. The proposed design covers 26.55 29.2 GHz (9.4%) frequency band with more than 34 dB isolation between the two ports along that frequency band. Hence, the proposed antenna performance makes it a good candidate for the 5G applications at millimeter wave frequency. 2019 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l.-All rights reserved.Item 3-D full wave analysis using spectral domain method of moments for a ferrite ceoss-patch antenna(2007) Elshafiey T.M.F.; October University for Modern Sciences and Arts; MSA; 14 Amer St. off El Messaha Square; Dokki; Cairo; EgyptThis paper-describes the 3-D analysis using spectraldomain Method of Moments, MoM, of cross - patch antennas on ferrite substrates and compares its: radar cross section (RCS) with respect to the full - patch antenna. The direction of the dc magnetization of the ferrite is assumed arbitrarily in ? and ?. The Greens function and the excitation vector are formulated in a closed form using, the transmission matrix approach. The linearly-varying basis function is used. In general, we notice that the first resonance is almost at the same frequency for both patches, the cross and the full. The cross patch excites less number of modes than the case of full patch. The: RCS level is reduced. This reduction might be due to the less number of modes and/or the smaller physical area for the cross-patch element.Item 3D Finite Element Study on Incomplete Osseointegration: Locator Attachment versus Ball Attachment(Open Access Macedonian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2021-02) ElGabry, Hisham S; Yousief, Salah A; Moubarak, Amal H; Eltaftazani, Iman A; El-Anwar, Mohamad; El-Zawahry, Mohamed MBACKGROUND: Incomplete implant osseointegration may affect the choice of the type of attachment to ensure less amount of bone resorption, periods of maintenance, and longer implant/attachment life-time. AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate, using 3D FE analysis (FEA), the influence of two different types of attachments on the rate of bone resorption, need for maintenance and implant/attachment life time in cases of unpredictable osseointegration in various bone types and using different implant angulations. METHODS: Six finite element models were prepared; three for the locator attachment while the other three for the ball attachment. Each of the three models simulates vertical implant and inclined implants by 10° and 20° degrees. Frictional contact between implant and cortical bone simulated the incomplete osseointegration scenario. RESULTS: Non-linear static analysis results showed that locator attachment and its cap may have longer time life in comparison with the ball attachment and its cap. CONCLUSIONS: Both attachments were safe for cortical and spongy bone, while the cortical bone receives less Von Mises stress by up to 33% with the increased implant angulation.Item 4-BIT PIPELINE ADC FOR MONOLITHIC ACTIVE PIXEL SENSORS(AMER SOC MECHANICAL ENGINEERS, 2009) Agieb, Ramy Said; El Ghitany, Hassan Ahmed; Shehata, Khaled AliLow voltage low power 4-bits 90Ms/s, 40 mu w, with DNL (+0.19/-0.4)LSB and INL (+0.47/-0.46)LSB is designed using 0.13um UMC CMOS technology operated with 1.2V voltage supply. Accordingly, this work is devoted to loading 5-FU into AuNPs surface and studying the binding mechanism of the drug to the surface of the gold nanoparticles. Our finding indicates that new absorption band appears at longer wavelength upon loading 5-FU into gold nanospheres capped with citrate. This near IR band is due to induced surface plasmon coupling via hydrogen bonding between 5-FU and surface capping AuNPs. This leads to great enhancement of the drug action as chemotherapeutic as well as photothermal agents. Factors which affect the binding between 5-FU and the AuNPs such as pH, time after mixing the drug with AuNPs, concentration of the 5-FU, have been studied in detail. Accordingly, the binding interaction is proven to be via hydrogen bonding. Upon the investigation of thermal and photo satiability, the formed composite 5-FU@AuNPs showed high stability towards these factors. The spectral and morphological studies were measured via UV-VIS spectroscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM). Remarkable increases in the drug anticancer activity upon loading into AuNPs were observed for the cell viability test of human colon cancer (HCT16). 2012 Mohamed MB, et al.Item 99mTc-amitrole as a novel selective imaging probe for solid tumor: In silico and preclinical pharmacological study(Elsevier, 2015) Essa, BM; Sakr, TM; A Khedr, Mohammed; El-Essawy, FA; El-Mohty, AALactoperoxidase (LPO) inhibitors are very selective for solid tumor due to their high binding affinity to the LPO enzyme. A computational study was used to select top-ranked LPO inhibitor (alone and in complex with 99mTc) with high in silico affinity. The novel prepared 99mTc-amitrole complex demonstrated both in silico and in vivo high affinity toward solid tumors. 99mTc-amitrole was radio-synthesized with a high radiochemical yield (89.7 ± 3.25). It showed in vitro stability for up to 6 h. Its preclinical evaluation in solid tumor-bearing mice showed high retention and biological accumulation in solid tumor cells with a high Target/Non-Target (T/NT) ratio equal to 4.9 at 60 min post-injection. The data described previously could recommend 99mTc-amitrole as potential targeting scintigraphic probe for solid tumor imagingItem 99mTc–meropenem as a potential SPECT imaging probe for tumor hypoxia(SPRINGER, 2012) Sakr, TM; Motaleb, MA; Ibrahim, ITMeropenem was successfully radiolabeled with 99mTc in high labeling yield (92 ± 2%) and stability (~6 h). 99mTc–meropenem showed high accumulation in tumor hypoxic tissue (4.193% injected dose/g organ). 99mTc–meropenem showed high ability to differentiate the tumor tissue from inflamed or infected tissues in different mice models as its T/NT ratio ~4 in case of tumor mice model while T/NT ratio ~1 in case of inflamed mice model. So, 99mTc–meropenem showed high selectivity in comparison with FDG-PET and 99mTc-nitroimidazole analogues. Thus, 99mTc–meropenem could be used as a selective potential imaging agent for diagnosis of tumor hypoxia.Item 99mTc-nebivolol as a novel heart imaging radiopharmaceutical for myocardial infarction assessmenta(SPRINGER, 2013) Sakr, TM; Moustapha, ME; Motaleb, MANon-invasive quantification of myocardial β-receptors could become an independent prognostic marker for chronic heart failure and cardiovascular disorders. The aim of this study was to formulate a novel radiopharmaceutical for the detection of myocardial infarction at early stages in susceptible patients, which requires the development of high myocardium affinity radiopharmaceuticals able to establish an accurate in vivo quantification of cardiac β1-adrenoceptors. This was attained by the direct complexation of nebivolol as a cardioselective agent with technetium-99m as one of the most useful radionuclides in diagnostic nuclear medicine. Factors affecting the radiochemical yield such as nebivolol amount, stannous chloride amount, reaction time and pH of the reaction mixture were optimized. The results showed that the radiochemical yield was 95 ± 2.87 % and the radiolabeled compound was separated by high performance liquid chromatography. In vitro studies showed that the formed complex was stable for up to 24 h. In vivo uptake of 99mTc-nebivolol in the heart was 4.55 ± 0.23 % ID/g organ at 0.5 h post injection, whereas the clearance from Albino mice appeared to proceed via the hepatobiliary and renal clearance pathways. Predosing mice with cold nebivolol reduced the heart uptake to 1.1 ± 0.02 % and further confirmed the high specificity and selectivity of this radiotracer for the assessment of the myocardial β1-adrenoceptorsItem A Compact Dual-Band ACS-Fed Frequency Independent Hook Loop Antenna for WLAN Applications(Taylor and Francis Ltd., 2024-10-02) Arvind Kumar; Praveen V. Merghany; Mohamed A. Salem; Shahira M. Ezzat; Sherifa F. A. Moustafa; Salma A. El‑Sawi; Meselhy R. MeselhySeveral Pelargonium species are cultivated mainly to produce essential oils used in perfume industry and for ornamental purposes. Although the chemical composition and biological activities of their essential oils were extensively investigated, there is limited information about the chemical composition of their non-volatile constituents. In this study, we report an Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS)-based metabolomics approach for the annotation and analysis of various metabolites in three species; P. graveolens, P. denticulatum, and P. fragrans utilizing The Global Natural Product Social Molecular Networking (GNPS) and multivariate data analyses for clustering of the metabolites. A total of 154 metabolites belonging to different classes were annotated. The three species are good sources of coumarins, benzoic acid derivatives, organic acids, fatty acids, and phospholipids. However, the highest level of flavonols (mono- and di-O-glycosides) and cinnamic acid derivatives was found in P. graveolens and P. denticulatum, whereas tannins and flavone C-glycosides were abundant in P. fragrans. The metabolic profiles clarified here provide comprehensive information on the non-volatile constituents of the three Pelargonium species and can be employed for their authentication and possible therapeutic applications.Item A Comprehensive Review and Mapping Citrus Supply Chains from a Sustainability Perspective across the European Union, Middle East, and Africa(MDPI, 2024-10) Sherin Beshara; Ahmed Kassem; Hadi Fors; Nermine HarrazCitrus fruits are among the most produced and traded agricultural products worldwide, with significant economic and social importance. Despite their importance in the European Union, Middle East, and Africa, the existing literature is limited. Several studies have reviewed different aspects of general agri-food supply chains, but a product-based literature review on citrus supply chains has not been conducted.
